Licensed Practitioner of Religious Science (INTERNATIONAL Centers for Spiritual Living or UNITED Centers for Spiritual Living) and accepted as a ministerial student in one of these organizations.
Active member of a Religious Science church or center for two years.
Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communications to include composition, spelling, grammar, and public speaking excellence.
Minimum of two years of academic or specialized training and /or documented life experience.
Financial, emotional, intellectual and spiritual maturity, evidenced by such factors as scholastic record, successful business or teaching background, as well as the reference of the current minister of applicant’s center or church and one other person who has known the candidate for at least two years.
Demonstrated commitment to the ministry of Religious Science.
Evidence of financial need.
Preference to applicants who intend to embark on a ministry of their own.
The following prerequisites added November 7, 2008:
Scholarship grants will be considered only for individuals who have completed one full year of ministerial training either with Holmes Institute or in a 400 series program with a church or center affiliated with International Centers for Spiritual Living.
Every scholarship application must contain the following written declaration from the individual's minister or Dean and be co-signed by the applicant: "We declare that this application is based on financial need and that the Hefferlin scholarship support will be of major financial assistance to the individual."
Each scholarship application must be accompanied by an Equifax credit report that has been issued within the past six months.
Each scholarship application must be supported by a Statement of Intention to begin a "new work" and preference will be given to a new church or center. The Statement of Intention should include details such as location for the "new work," the individual's knowledge of the location, current Religious Science churches/centers/study groups/teaching chapter groups in the area, funding sources, and answers to the following questions:
Does the individual have sufficient business background to enable him or her to start up a new work?
How has applicant shown a personal commitment to ministry in his or her own home church; e.g., leadership in volunteering, pastoral care, board membership, etc.?
Has the applicant exhibited leadership in areas outside of church; e.g., community volunteer, business owner, corporate executive, non-profit work, etc.?
Does the applicant have a willingness to relocate? Would the applicant take or start a church or ministry out of his or her immediate area?
Does the applicant financially support his or her church? Can applicant support himself/herself if moving to a new location to begin a work?
What specific experience does the applicant have in his or her own church; e.g., speaking, teaching, volunteering, board membership, pastoral care, fund raising, etc.?
Each application will be considered individually.
